Limitation of Exchange Hybrid Centralized Mail Transport

I recently had a curious behavior in my customers Exchange 2010 SP3 hybrid environment with centralized mail transport for Exchange 2010 SP3 Edge servers enabled.

Before I describe the topic in more detail I would like to say thank you to the guys from Microsoft: Timothy Heeney, Scott Landry and Tom Kern helped me with my ‘little’ mail flow problem . Appreciate your help.

My customer is using a smtp gateway for external mail flow as usual. Some of the mailboxes have configured smtp forwarding like ForwardingAddress (mail contact) and ForwardingSMTPAddress (external smtp address directly set on the mailbox).

Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 12 (CU)

Microsoft released the quarterly servicing update to Exchange Server 2013 – CU12, first CU for Exchange Server 2016 and updated UM Language Packs.

Exchange Server 2016 receives its first Cumulative Update, and Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 12 is also released. Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010 Update Rollups provide an updated OWA S/MIME control signed with a SHA-2 certificate. Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 11 (CU)

Microsoft released the quarterly servicing update to Exchange Server 2013 – CU11 and updated UM Language Packs.

Cumulative Update 11 contains the latest set of fixes and builds upon Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 10. The release includes fixes for customer reported issues, minor product enhancements and previously released security bulletins. Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 10 (CU)

Microsoft released the quarterly servicing update to Exchange Server 2013 – CU10 and updated UM Language Packs.

The release includes fixes for customer reported issues, minor product enhancements and previously released security bulletins. A complete list of customer reported issues resolved can be found in Knowledge Base Article KB3078678.

Cumulative Update 10 is the minimum version of Exchange Server 2013 which will co-exist with Exchange Server 2016.
